I had a ball playing Diana Divine, in Lend Me A Tenor!
Diana Divine, is the scheming Diva of the Cleveland Opera House, it’s 1934, and the world’s greatest tenor Tito Merelli has come to Cleveland, Ohio, to save its Grand Opera Company by singing Otello. When he is unexpectedly incapacitated, Max, the Opera Director’s meek assistant, is given the daunting task of finding a last-minute replacement. Chaos ensues – including a scheming soprano, a tenor-struck ingénue, a jealous wife and the Cleveland Police department.
Diana schemes her way into the famed Tito Mirellis’ bedroom with a bottle of champagne in hand and her voice at the ready to give her all singing all dancing private audition!
Diana Divines’ pièce de résistance is a wonderful solo combining excerpts from some of the most famous Soprano arias. Combining text throughout the piece it is a challenging yet very rewarding song to sing! The piece starts with the ‘Mad Scene’ from Lucia di Lammermoor and works through Vissi D’arte (Tosca), Un Bel Vedremo (Madam Butterfly), Adele’s Laughing Song (Die Fledermaus), Musetta’s Waltz from (la Boheme), La Habanera (Carmen), Sempre libera (La Traviata), O Mio Babbino (Gianni Schicchi) and the big finish where she jumps on the bed finishing with Hojotoho from Die Walkure!
