Wow what a jam-packed last few months this has been! Finally I have had 5 minutes to put my feet up (so to speak) and get in front of my computer! I’d like to share with you some of the photos of my time as a French Revolutionary in the Ensemble of Poulenc’s ‘Dialogues Des Carmelites’ (Produced by Robert Carsen).
Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites takes place in France during the French Revolution in the late 18th century. It tells a somewhat fictionalised version of the story of the Martyrs of Compiègne, Carmelite nuns who, in 1794 during the closing days of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution, were guillotined in Paris for refusing to renounce their vocation.
Being in Covent Garden and working at the Royal Opera House has been an amazing experience. I have worked alongside the great Sir Thomas Allen, Sir Simon Rattle and have had a wonderful opportunity of a ringside seat to see up close the work of Sally Matthews and the rest of the cast and crew.
I think the Royal Opera House has done an amazing job of making a real community ensemble; I have met people with diverse backgrounds and life experience and can say I have made a lot of new friends!
I have sat in the red velvet seats of the Royal Opera House many times and watched in awe of what is going on, on stage, so to be on the other side of those huge velvet curtains has been a truly humbling and determining experience. I have a funny feeling this won’t be the last time I’ll be talking about being at the Royal Opera House!
